The journalism department has 170 majors, 21 secondary majors and 102 minors. With a total of 294 students in the department, JPR&NM ranks as the eighth most popular major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
All Baylor students must complete 124 total hours to graduate. 33 of those hours will come from the Department of Journalism, PR and New Media for majors while minors need to complete 18 hours.

The mission of the department is to equip students with a strong academic foundation with skills such as writing, editing and reporting while preparing them to thrive in an evolving media industry where content creation across multiple platforms is essential.
A degree in Journalism, Public Relations and New Media from Baylor opens doors to careers in media, communications, marketing and beyond. Graduates work as reporters, PR specialists, content creators and digital strategists across a variety of industries. The program’s emphasis on writing, storytelling and ethical communication also prepares students for success in law, business and public service.
