Majors
Students in the Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media learn to communicate effectively, think strategically and tell stories that matter. Through hands-on coursework, internships and student media opportunities, students develop the skills and experience needed for careers in journalism, strategic communication, content creation, media production and related fields.
The department offers three majors that combine professional skills and practical experience:
- Advertising and Public Relations prepares students to create strategic campaigns, build brands and engage audiences through writing, design, research and content creation.
- Multimedia Journalism prepares students to gather, report and share stories across digital, broadcast and visual media platforms. Students may choose a track in Writing and Reporting, Broadcasting or Visual Media.
- Sports Media prepares students to tell stories, build brands and connect with audiences in the dynamic world of sports. Students may choose a track in Advertising and Public Relations or Writing and Reporting.
Students complete a broad liberal arts education while gaining specialized skills that prepare them for a variety of communication careers. Degree plans and course requirements are available in Baylor's Undergraduate Catalog.
High-performing JPR&NM majors may also pursue the department’s accelerated master’s degree, allowing them to earn a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in five years. Students typically apply during their junior year and begin graduate coursework while completing their bachelor's degree. For more information about the accelerated BA/MA program or contact Dr. Marlene Neill, Graduate Program Director.
Minors
