Majors, Minors & Secondary Majors
"I am grateful for the hands-on experience that ''Lariat TV New'’ offers. The program has allowed me to grow as a journalist and to prepare for my post-graduation future in broadcast journalism. I am surrounded by a fun and driven team of people who are passionate about creating content and informing the Baylor and Waco community." - Kennedy Dendy, 2019 Broadcast Journalism Student
Majors
A major in Journalism, Public Relations & New Media allows students to explore a broad-based liberal arts degree, while also earning a skills and theory-based degree backed up with practical experience. Students have the option of concentrating their degree in News-Editorial, Public Relations, Advertising, Photojournalism and Broadcast sequences. All students must complete a minor offered in another department of the College of Arts & Sciences or a concentration from a school outside of Arts & Sciences.
High-performing journalism majors can earn a Bachelor's and Master's degree in five years in the accelerated degree in Journalism, Public Relations & New Media. Journalism majors may apply to the program in their junior year. Accepted students will take graduate classes in their senior year while finishing their bachelor's degree. See Dr. Marlene Neill, Director, Graduate Program in Journalism, Public Relations and New Media, about the 4+1, Accelerated BA/MA Program.
Minors
The department offers four choices for students majoring in other departments wishing to obtain a minor in journalism: the public relations minor, the photojournalism minor, advertising minor or the news editorial minor. Each consists of 18 semester hours.
Secondary Majors
A secondary major allows students to earn one bachelor's degree together with a secondary major associated with a different degree program without fulfilling all of the core requirements associated with that second degree.
