Sports Media Major and Secondary Major
The Sports Media major prepares students to tell stories, build brands and connect with audiences in the fast-paced world of sports. Students develop skills in content creation, strategic communication, reporting and media production while learning about the unique opportunities and challenges of the sports industry.
Through hands-on coursework, internships and real-world experiences, students gain practical skills and choose a track in Advertising and Public Relations or Writing and Reporting. Graduates are prepared for careers with professional teams, collegiate athletics programs, sports organizations, media outlets and related communication fields.
Advertising and Public Relations Track
The Advertising and Public Relations track prepares students to promote sports organizations, teams and events through strategic communication and audience engagement. Students learn how to build brands, create campaigns, manage social media and develop content that strengthens relationships with fans, sponsors and community stakeholders.
Through hands-on projects and professional experiences, students gain skills that prepare them for careers in sports marketing, public relations, community relations, sponsorship activation and digital communication.
Writing and Reporting Track
The Writing and Reporting track prepares students to cover sports through compelling storytelling, accurate reporting and digital content creation. Students develop skills in interviewing, reporting, feature writing and multimedia storytelling while learning how to communicate effectively with athletes, coaches and fans.
Through practical reporting experiences and student media opportunities, students build a portfolio and prepare for careers in sports journalism, content creation, broadcasting and digital media.
