Black Gospel Music Preservation Program
Inspired by Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media Professor Emeritus Robert Darden's passion for preserving recordings of Black gospel music, Charles Royce made an initial gift to Baylor University to establish the Black Gospel Music Preservation Program and the Royce-Darden Black Gospel Music digital collection. The purpose of the archive is to digitally preserve and maintain recordings of Black gospel music from the "Golden Age of Gospel" (1945-1975).
In 2021, Baylor University established the Black Gospel Archive & Listening Center. Located in Moody Library, the archive physically preserves thousands of vinyl records, tapes, and archival materials.
