We spoke to the Greater Waco Chamber’s Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) Program participants as part of our community engagement efforts.

Strengthening our ties with the local community, our students engage in hands-on learning experiences by collaborating with various nonprofits to develop comprehensive media plans. These plans are tailored to fit each agency's unique needs and goals, ensuring that they can effectively integrate them into their broader communications strategies. Throughout this process, students not only gain valuable insights into nonprofit operations but also learn how to analyze target audiences, craft compelling messaging, and select appropriate media channels for outreach.

Additionally, the partnerships foster a real-world impact, as our students contribute to initiatives that promote social change while honing their skills in strategic communication, project management, and teamwork. This practical experience enhances their academic learning and prepares them for successful careers in the communications field. By the end of the program, students present their plans to nonprofit organizations, providing them with actionable strategies that can drive engagement and support their missions.

Faculty members mentor students from underserved communities Hearne and Calvert and host tours for the Greater Waco Chamber’s Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) Program, which provides students with lifelong skills by introducing them to various business and networking opportunities.
