Page Center Announces Recipients of the 2024 Page/Johnson Legacy Scholar Grants

The Page Center announced the recipients of the 2024 Page/Johnson Legacy Scholar Grants. The call on ethics training was led by Dr. Marlene Neill, Ph.D., associate professor at Baylor University and Page Center senior research fellow.

Through the funded projects, Neill hopes to provide guidance on developing ethics continuing education in the various communication disciplines.

“I am looking forward to working with these brilliant scholars who submitted solid proposals focused on research in the areas of ethics training in advertising, journalism and public relations,” Neill said.  “Collectively, I am confident that we will provide new insights into how to better prepare journalists, advertising and public relations professionals for the ethical challenges they are facing today.”

The 17 research projects will answer questions and offer insights from three important research areas – ethics education, practice and theory.

“This is a great opportunity for researchers to have the funding necessary to develop important research in areas such as DEI, artificial intelligence, ethics and highlight their implications for our discipline,” said Baylor JPR&NM Professor and Chair Mia Moody-Ramirez, Ph.D.

Rosalynn Vasquez, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Baylor University, received a grant for the project, “Examining the role of PR in communicating DEI and ethics training in U.S. companies.”
"I'm excited to be among this year's Page/Johnson Legacy Grant scholars and represent my university,” Vasquez said. “I'm very grateful to the Page Center, Dr. Neill, and all the reviewers for their feedback and recognition. This grant award is very encouraging as I grow in my academic career at Baylor and contribute new research in DEI, ethics, and public relations."

Moody-Ramirez noted that the 2024 Page/Johnson Legacy Scholar Grants and the call on ethics training is an example of how professors are leading the charge in tackling the tough issues facing universities today.

“I am excited for Drs. Neill and Vasquez who are participants in this year’s call,” she said. “They are both researching impactful topics and taking on leadership roles in key areas that really matter right now in academia. I am grateful they have made it possible for Baylor to be involved in this important research project funded by the Page Center.”
