KWBU Media Literacy Cafe Castellaw

NPR-affiliate KWBU will host a media literacy-themed Cafe Castellaw at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 in the Castellaw Communications Building to promote an improved understanding of news media.
The event will be held in conjunction with the "Passport to Literacy" event, which will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 and sponsored by Baylor Libraries, the Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media, and NPR-affiliate KWBU.
“Media literacy is crucial in today's information-rich environment, especially given the prevalence of misinformation and disinformation, as we have seen in the upcoming election,” said Ellen Filgo, Library Liaison for Journalism, Public Relations, and New Media.
“I am most excited about the opportunity to connect students with resources to empower them to become smart media consumers, particularly as we get closer to this year's election,” said Rachel Velasco, KWBU Community Engagement Coordinator.
Bringing a breadth of perspectives from national public media, librarianship, and the academy to this experience will provide participants with a well-rounded perspective on media literacy.
“I hope attendees become more informed about the importance of critical thinking when consuming media messages. It has become increasingly difficult to gauge the legitimacy of media content,” said Mia-Moody Ramirez, Chair of Journalism, Public Relations and News Media.
